Volunteer
Giving your time and talent is a great way to support the children and families of Bright Beginnings. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to support the important work we do.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us or call us at 202-236-4503.
Please note, due to ongoing health and safety precautions, BBI has extremely limited opportunities for volunteer groups. If your group is interested in organizing an in-kind donation drive or book drive, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteer Opportunities
Classroom Assistant
Our Teachers often need support in the classroom. Classroom helpers can provide support to our teachers by reading to students, helping with snack time, helping children wash their hands, preparing materials for class, setting and cleaning up activities, and assisting with indoor/outdoor play-time.
Evening Care
Bright Beginning provides evening care for our parents who work nontraditional hours. Volunteers have the option of providing support to our evening care team.
Event Volunteers
Throughout the year BBI host’s a variety of events for BBI students and their families such as book fairs, famers markets, a harvest festival, and literacy nights. These events are supported in large part by our passionate and committed volunteers. If you are interested in participating in one of our events, please check our volunteer calendar to see all of our upcoming events!
Parent Resource Center
Bright Beginnings’ family service team works one-on-one with families to identify personal and family challenges, set goals to overcome obstacles and achieve self-sufficiency. Volunteers can work on one of the following activities: job training; workforce preparation including learning soft/new skills; parent training; wellness and health information; legal resource; and financial literacy.
Tutoring
At BBI we provide support to our children even after they graduate. We need volunteer support tutoring some of our older alumni in math, science, reading, and social studies, to help them succeed as they continue their academic career.
School Beautification Project (suggested for groups of 5 or fewer)
At regular intervals, our facilities require routine cleaning and maintenance including cleaning the playground equipment, washing the walls and disinfecting toys and indoor play areas.
